Das muss man sich einmal vor Augen führen, dass es damals in Versailles mehr als neunzigtausend Blumen und Pflanzen in den königlichen Gärten gab. Sie alle dienten der Herrlichkeit des „parfumierten Hofes“. Keiner konnte den französischen Parfümeuren das Wasser reichen, in dessen Zentrum ein absolutistischer König stand, der seine Räumlichkeiten jeden Tag mit anderen Kreationen desodorieren ließ. Selbst die Brunnen im Garten trugen parfümiertes Wasser. Im Lustschloss Marly, so beschloss der König, sollte sich um das Wohl der reinsten Pferde gekümmert werden. Die Pferdezucht des Königs war so berühmt, dass der Tunesische König ihm acht Araber schenkte. Diese wurden mit prächtigen, großen und starken europäischen Pferden gekreuzt. Sie waren das Vorbild für die berühmten Skulpturen auf der Champs Elysee.
